Shoppers Seek Cheaper Gifts

Nov. 22, 2006 – While 78 percent of Americans expect to spend the same or more on holiday gifts this year, many are hoping to buy cheaper presents, according to a recent poll by Seattle-based market research firm, Global Market Insite.

Sixty-four percent of respondents said discount stores would be their first or second stop when shopping for the holidays, while fewer than six percent cited luxury shops, the survey found.

Another 66 percent called gift giving the most annoying part of the holidays.

Global Market Insite ranked No. 93 on the 2006 Inc. 500 list of America's fastest growing private companies.
