Use Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter to Find (and Vet) New Hires
00:10 Dave Kerpen: For years, a major challenge facing the small businesses is finding great talent. The good news is, you can use social media now not only to find great talent, but to learn a lot about them before you even meet them for the first time. So, for instance, right now, I'm looking for a great new salesperson for our Chicago office. Let's see what I did. So, I start my search on LinkedIn, and I go to the search bar and type in 'sales talent'. Now, I don't need 420,000 results. What I am looking for is people in Chicago. And that's still 15,000. So, let me look at second connections. These are people that are closely connected to my own friends and connections on LinkedIn. Looks like Frank DiMatteo is at the very top of my list. So, I can check out his profile, learn a lot more about him. And if he seems interesting, let me see where else I can go to learn about Frank DiMatteo.
01:19 Kerpen: I will go to Twitter. Go to the Twitter search bar, put his name in, do a quick search, here he is. Award winning businessman, dynamic community leader and sales executive, sounds interesting. I mean look at his tweets. I am really starting to like him. There is one more place I am gonna check. I am gonna go to Facebook and search for him in Facebook. Who knows maybe we have a friend or two in common. Here he is. Looks like he likes race cars, interesting. More important, we have a mutual friend. So, now I am gonna ask our mutual friend for a little bit of insight into Frank. And if all goes well, well, I might have a great candidate on hand. Think about how much you can learn about your next great sales talent or marketing talent or IT talent or developer talent just from searching social networks. Pretty amazing, huh?
