Want a Government Contract? SBA Has Just the Thing for You

The SBA announced new classes aimed at training small businesses in how to land government contracts.

The Small Business Administration announced today that it would offer a new training series on how to land a government contract in its 8(a) business development program. 

The 8(a) program, which aims to help struggling companies develop and improve their business, will hold four courses on how to get a government contract. The first two courses announced today are "Setting Expectations" and "Introduction to Federal Contracting."

"The 8(a) Business Development program is one of the best tools the government has to ensure that more small disadvantaged businesses can compete and win contracts in federal, state and local procurement markets," SBA Deputy Administrator Marie Johns said in a statement.

"Setting Expectations" will serve as an introductory course on the 8(a) program, providing an overview of the various development courses that the SBA offers. "Introduction to Federal Contracting" will educate small business owners on how make contract deals with the government.

Specifically, companies will learn the best negotiation tactics, how to understand the finer details of an actual government contract, for example. The other two courses will be announced at a later date.

Since 2009, the SBA has backed more than $100.2 billion in federal government contracting dollars.
