Now, in my experience, corporate charity events tend to be stuffy, self-satisfied, black-tie affairs whose main purpose is to celebrate (and soak) the top 1 percent. This party was different, though. The owners turned their store into a jazz club and invited some top musicians, like wunderkind Grace Kelly, to perform, for the company's customers.
This type of event is apparently typical of Life is Good, which sells a line of crazy-optimistic clothing and accessories, many of them ornamented with a smiling stick-figure. The company has experienced viral growth because people today are emotionally starving from a lack of optimism.
Ever since 9/11, there's been an overwhelming sense of pessimism and doom in both the United States and indeed throughout much of the world. It wasn't always like this. I remember long periods in the 1980s and 1990s where there was plenty of optimism to go around.
I think the tide is beginning to turn and not because the economy is slowly improving. It's the other way around! The economy is improving because people are beginning to embrace optimism again.
Which leads me to the purpose of this post: I want YOU to help me give that growing sense of optimism a huge shove in the right direction.
While it's true that many people have negative feelings about their job or their work, I believe that there are millions of people who enjoy what they do. For us (and you know who you are), work is good. Work isn't a burden but an ongoing source of happiness and accomplishment.
The problem is that "work optimists" have let the negativity of the overall culture force us into the closet. I believe that it's time for us to come out and declare ourselves and, by doing so, add momentum the growing sense of optimism throughout the world.

Here's my thinking... if we can make this post go viral, it will remind all the other "work optimists" in the world that we're not alone. And that, in turn, will encourage more of us to express more of the optimism that is literally changing the world and improving the economy.
