The CEOs Who Lit Up Social Media Last Week

News about some big names prompted much social media chatter.

Tech CEOs were all over the news last week, resulting in a surge of social media mentions for three of the U.S.'s most prominent business leaders, according to data gathered for Inc. by social intelligence company Synthesio.

During the week that ended July 26, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff generated the most mentions on social media with 9,072, which represented more than a quarter of all mentions for the 25 tech CEOs tracked by Synthesio. Benioff continued to unload shares in the cloud computing company last week after not selling any for years. Since June 9, he's sold more than half a million shares, netting himself around $20 million, Forbes reports.

Twitter founder Jack Dorsey also saw his social media mentions spike last week amid reports that he's making an effort to bring more women into his mobile payments company, Square. Dorsey, who's hired women to the roles of CFO and head of engineering, generated the second most mentions on social last week with 5,195, representing more than 15 percent of all tech CEO mentions.

Jeff Bezos made headlines last week after Amazon reported a second quarter loss of $126 million, sending the stock tumbling more than 9.5 percent and boosting Bezos' social mentions to 3,532, more than 10 percent of tech CEO mentions.

Below is a chart showing the top eight CEOs by social media mentions during the week of July 20 through July 26.
