What it does:
A software company that provides technology allowing help desk and tech support departments to gain access--with permission--to an end user's computer to view and resolve software problems.
Why it's growing:
The Internet has made tech support a more viable business and Bomgar's technology works no matter what system is being used--anywhere in the world. Bomgar has grown significantly over the past five years--despite being headquartered outside high tech hubs such as Boston and Silicon Valley.
What's noteworthy:
Founder and CEO Joel Bomgar developed the software that Bomgar uses today to address problems he faced while working as a technical support engineer in college. "It was technology I just couldn't keep to myself," says Bomgar. The company recently won several awards, including Network World's Top 10 Security Start Ups to Watch in 2006, FastCompany.com's Fast 50 Reader's Favorites in 2006 and the company was a Red Herring 100 Finalist for 2006 and 2007.
