What it does:
Surf Cowboy designs and sells premium jeans and knit tops under the Agave Jean, Agave Nectar, and Red Scorpion Jeans brands to 450 specialty store accounts in North America.
Why it's growing:
The company spends more money on finishing than garment construction. A tremendous amount of handwork is done to create the luxury look and feel of jean products, which differentiates the product and attracts high-end consumers. Each jean product is antiqued by hand with sandpaper, grinding tools, dremels, and a bleaching agent, and receives a battery of dry processing and stone washing, with the goal of perfectly breaking in each product prior to the sale.
What's noteworthy:
The cotton for the company's jeans is grown in California, the yarn is spun in Switzerland, the fabric is woven in Japan, and the garments are constructed in Los Angeles.
