No. 3,435 CTI Burr Ridge, IL
What it does: Provides Wireless Broadband (WiMAX) Infrastructure to Internet Service Providers for rural and underserved markets. Why it's growing: Demand for Internet technology is growing, particularly in the niche markets CTI serves. What's noteworthy: CEO Charles Wu started CTI from his frat house so he and his buddies could play video games. Using pre-WiFi technology modified for outdoor use, he accessed an unobstructed signal from the college a mile away via the rooftop of a nearby 40-story condominium building. He then wired the building for free and charged tenants $50 a month for Internet service. |
