What it does: Created by B*tween Productions, the Beacon Street Girls are five fictional best friends -- part of a consumer entertainment brand focusing on the health and well-being of girls ages 9 to 13. Beacon Street Girls includes a series of books and has a website with games and related articles.
Description of internship: Marketing and editorial interns work in a variety of areas -- conducting research for books, assisting with Web design, and helping with the company's donation-request program. (unpaid)
Notable perks:: Interns are closely involved in the company's day-to-day operations, and occasionally get to interview celebrities as part of their research, according to Bobbie Carlton, the company's marketing director. Marketing interns walk away with a complete portfolio of press releases and other materials.
Why interns? Carlton says interns bring a valuable perspective, since they are naturally a little bit closer in age and mindset to Beacon Street Girls' target audience. "While I'm probably the only woman my age who can quote from High School Musical, these interns are that much more in tune with what's going on," she says.
