What it does: Creates custom radio stations based on users' favorites, along with social networking functions that allow users to interact with others who have similar musical tastes. As CEO Dan Kauffman describes it -- "custom radio meets MySpace."

Description of internship: Founded in 2006, Jango's first batch of interns played an integral role in getting the company off the ground -- conducting market research, recruiting members for the social network, and working on Web design. Now that the company is up and running, interns are now charged with spreading Jango applications on Facebook and MySpace. (stipend)

Notable perks:: Interns compete for prizes in inter-office contests. They also receive concert tickets.

Why interns? The site, which caters teens and 20-somethings, was founded by five guys in their 30s -- so Kauffman and his team likes getting input from their target demographic. "They became ambassadors of the product," he says.
