The first 10,000 eligible U.S.-based businesses will receive $100 in free Twitter advertising credits to purchase Promoted Tweets and Promoted Accounts. Businesses must be regular users and new advertisers on Twitter to be eligible for the giveaway.
Twitter ran a similar promotion in February when it launched a self-serve advertising program in partnership with American Express, which launched Small Business Saturday (Nov. 24 this year) to steer holiday shoppers toward independent businesses.
Since the program’s launch, “thousands of U.S. business owners have used Twitter advertising to quickly gain new followers, reach new customers and drive more traffic,” Twitter's vice president of global online sales Richard Alfonsi wrote in the post.
Alfonsi said small businesses can reach a broader audience using Promoted Tweets and with Promoted Accounts, they can boost the numbers of their loyal follower base.
Brooklyn-based clothing store Alter drove sales after advertising its products through Promoted Tweets, he noted. And Whipped Bakeshop in Philadelphia used Promoted Accounts to gain more followers and reach hundreds of new customers within weeks.
