Authur Frommer said yesterday that he repurchased the rights from Google to publish the Frommer’s travel guidebooks.
Although the deal’s terms were not disclosed, Frommer told The Associated Presss that he will resume publishing the travel guides in ebook and print format-- while operating the travel site Frommers.com.
Google confirmed that it sold the brand back to Frommer, but it had already integrated content from Frommer’s into various Google services, such as Google Plus, according to the AP. The tech giant acquired Frommer’s from its previous owner, John Wiley & Sons, for an undisclosed amount last summer.
At the time, the deal was considered as a strategic step by Google to expand in the travel industry. The tech giant has also acquired the restaurant and hotel review service Zagat in 2011.
The Frommer’s brand was founded in 1957 by Frommer, who started a self-published book called “Europe on $5 a Day.” It then expanded into over 300 guidebooks and the travel site Frommers.com, which offer trip advices around the world. The company was bought by John Wiley & Sons in 2011.
