Stove Caster's Use Of Scrap Is No Innovation
I am surprised at your pointing to Vermont Castings Inc.'s use of scrap motor blocks in making stove parts as something innovative (People & Innovations, May).
The Cast Metals Federation estimates that 82% of all ferrous castings are composed of scrap metal. We ourselves cast compressor housings, pump housings, and gear cases entirely from ferrous scrap, at the rate of over 10,000 tons of goods castings per year.
