Fair labor law violations have reached an "unacceptable level," the Minimum Wage Study Commission says. In response to this charge, Secretary of Labor Raymond Donovan has created seven regional task forces to crack down on so-called "sweatshops," where employees are paid at illegally low rates. Faced with strong criticism from business and labor groups, the Labor Department also extended the period of public comment on its proposal to lift restrictions on homework in certain industries.
