SBA staff cutbacks may not be necessary if the attrition rate from resignations keeps up, Small Business Administration head Michael Cardenas told a group of small businessmen recently. The agency has been losing as many as 15 people a week, says Cardenas; at that rate, he won't have to make the personnel reductions mandated by the Reagan budget cuts. "We want to get rid of people who don't want to work," Cardenas told the group. "I just hope we really lose the deadheads. We need a lot of new blood and innovation." Cardenas has also ordered a drastic cutback in agency travel and a halt to all printing and publications, pending further review.
