Bid You Fare Well
Instead of continuing to "just order" stationery from a local printer, Russell H. Walton, business manager for Illinois College, decided to take bids from other printing companies. Walton sent quotation requests to three printing companies with samples of the six stationery items he wanted to order for the four-year liberal arts college in Jacksonville, Ill.
"The high bid from the regular supplier was more than 78% higher than the low bid, and the college saved $2,849 on the order," remembers Walton.
The former supplier called Walton to find out the low bid. "Sorry I missed it," he replied. "We'll try to do better next time." Walton welcomes this new competitive spirit between suppliers and plans to continue the bidding process.
