Worried About No Layoff

 

If I were an employee at Sheldon Weinig's company I would not be reassured or motivated by his "no-layoffs" policy (Managing People, September). I would find it very worrisome. Such a policy could destroy a company during a serious downturn. While I agree that Mr. Weinig has a moral commitment to those people who might be laid off, he also has commitments to those people who would not be laid off and to the shareholders of his publicly held company.
