Flighty Advice?

I am appalled at the suggestion in "Flight plans" (Ideas You Can Use, January) on private air travel. This is almost analogous to hitchhiking along the interstate and probably as safe. My company spends thousands of dollars and complies with volumes of regulations to meet the Federal Aviation Administration, Civil Aeronautics Board, and individual company requirements to provide small aircraft charter service. Your story suggests that anyone with access to an aircraft is just as safe, legal, experienced, and properly insured. This is simply not so.

Thousands of individuals and companies have found that there is no better way to travel than by private and corporate aircraft, but very few of them would consider going to the local airport with their thumb out.
