It takes a tough man to do a Chicken Chit promotion, but Peter Baker, president of Convertech Inc., was equal to the task.
His Portsmouth, N.H., company had just acquired the coated-paper division of Dennison Manufacturing Co. and was desperate for visibility. Some ad-agency genius came up with the idea of The Great Convertech Chicken Chit Extravaganza, offering customers "Chicken Chits" that could be redeemed for prizes. Baker agreed to promote the campaign by appearing in ads dressed as a chicken. He has been clucking ever since.
