Garbage Details
Although Nelson W. Aldrich Jr.'s story was about family favoritism in Oakland, Calif. ("Feuding Families," January), I had the feeling that I was reading a well-researched close-up of the garbage-collection industry for the first time. For such a dirty and smelly subject, the writing and photographs were punchy and refreshing. It was fascinating to read about the people who are able to turn garbage into money.
