Tighter Medicare reimbursement policies have led hospitals to discharge patients earlier. But out-patients who are far from home have to check into hotels while under medical supervision. HospHotels of America Inc., based in Dallas, is building inexpensive housing for outpatients and families of hospitalized people. The facilities will be located near hospitals and connected to their communications systems. To keep prices low -- about $37 a night -- HospHotels will rent out space for doctors' offices, pharmacies, and other services.
