From Smart Guy To Smart Team
I enjoyed "Kuolt's Complex" (April), especially after I juxtaposed it with "The 'Smart Team' at Compaq Computer" (February). Congratulations for recognizing the often subtle blend of psychology and economics that reflect the transition from entrepreneur to formalization. However, you confuse the need to shift with the nature of what is to be shifted. The need to change behaviors or styles may require a change in who is sitting in the chairs as well as increasing the number of chairs, as the smart-team concept illustrates. But shifting power from the wise old man to the smart team is, in fact, an accomplishable transition.
