A Cutting Description

Your article about Delmar Skate Park ("[Boy] Scouting for Liability Insurance," Insider, February) stated, "They don't all look like Boy Scouts, not with their skateboards and their bristled Mohawk haircuts." Recently, 2,000 people attended a contest at Delmar Skate Park. They were normal kids; not one had a Mohawk. Scouting for Skaters at Delmar has improved the character of many skaters. They are better sportsmen, they take private property more seriously, and they take their personal conduct more seriously. There was only one skater at the park who had a Mohawk, and he has since cut it off.

No claims have been registered for injuries at Delmar or Upland Skate Parks. Upland has never had insurance. But your descriptions of the skateboarders has done damage to a sport that has been safe, and could cause the closing of the park.
