Clean Up, Not Clear Out Sba

The comments of John F. Carlson, Cray Research's executive vice-president, were the high point of "Cleaning House" (Washington, June). Cray's experience and ours are identical. Without Small Business Administration support over a number of years, our company would not exist today.

I am a staunch Reaganite, and I am upset over the Administration's tack on eliminating the SBA. Steps should be taken to improve the agency's operations and administration, not to eliminate it.

In light of the importance of small business to the nation's economy, it should get not only the support of the SBA, but also a Cabinet position.
