For about two years there, you would have had more luck going public as a maker of chocolate chips than as a maker of silicon chips. But last May, two semiconductor companies -- Linear Technology Corp. and Cypress Semiconductor Corp. -- did successful IPOs with a day of each other, proving that investors don't hold grudges forever. It helped, of course, that both companies could show at least a little black ink.
