Pop!;
With so many movie companies going public, it was only a matter of time before a popcorn maker would explode on the scene. Sure enough, one did -- Golden Valley Microwave Foods Inc., in Minneapolis, which sold close to $20 million of microwave popcorn in the first six months of 1986. It did even better with its September IPO, which raised $22.4 million at $14 a share, for a high-powered multiple of 23 times earnings. Golden Valley is now busy marketing another product, microwave pancakes -- which probably means it's time to go long on syrup.
