Untaxed Competitors
Congratulations on a fine article. You failed to mention, however, that business activity by nonprofit groups was the subject of hearings by the House Ways and Means Oversight Subcommittee in the U.S. Congress last June.
Variations on the competition theme abound, as witnessed in the subcommittee testimony by hearing-aid salespeople competing with hospitals, state police lodges that run magazines with paid advertising, and electromagnetic-testing laboratories threatened by the work of nonprofit Underwriters Laboratories.
The subcommittee staff plans to consider and make legislative and administrative recommendations in its report to the full Ways and Means Committee in November.
