A Westwood, Calif., company is testing a synthetic material that can be placed in food packages, causing the contents to heat or cool when the containers are opened. International Thermal Packaging Inc. says the technology allows for self-chilling beverage cans and for take-out burgers that stay hot (135º F). One fast-food chain plans to try the product out later this year.
