Milk Run

Two companies seal a deal to market and administer a test for a common infection found in dairy cows.

Farmers lose $1 billion annually because of a common cow infection that cuts milk production. ProScience had a test for the organism that causes the infection, but the procedure could not be easily administered by farmers or veterinarians. The company did a deal with DHIA Services of the National Dairy Herd Improvement Association, which already samples milk from half of the nation's cows for butterfat content; now, DHIA both markets and conducts the test.
