Author of a business best-seller starts a golf camp where executives learn management skills from golf pros.
Eager to brush up on your management skills, but having trouble dragging yourself off the golf course? Kenneth Blanchard, the man who brought us The One-Minute Manager, has figured out a way to have it all.
Two years ago Blanchard launched The Golf University at San Diego, where executives learn management skills from golf pros. Day one, Blanchard counsels that like a good manager the pros will coach students through their disillusionment, support them through reluctance, and delegate to them at their peak performance. He reminds them that 80% of their improvement comes from 20% of their activities. Blanchard opened a second school in the Ozarks last May. "It's a slow sell," he says, noting his handicap has dropped from 19 to 11. "We're not known in the golf business."
