Using the Vietnam Veterans Leadership Program to recruit new employees.
When John McGraw, president of Production Arts Lighting, faced a labor crunch, he turned to the Vietnam Veterans Leadership Program (VVLP), a free job-placement service with branches in 11 major cities. "A couple of us who had been in the service during Vietnam were looking for new ways to find people," says McGraw, whose $8-million New York City business rents equipment to off-Broadway theaters and touring rock groups.
In four years Production Arts has filled eight entry-level jobs through VVLP. Several vets are now managers. And, says McGraw, "they refer us to other people in the community." For information: Gene Gitelson, VVLP, (212) 269-8857.
