Start-up company uses bar codes on discount coupon books to track customers.
Sign of the Times If you thought bar codes were just for tracking products, think again. An Orlando start-up, SouthEast Advantage Inc. (SEA), recently launched what it calls STTS -- SEA tourist-tracking system. SEA's product is discount-coupon books that have bar-code labels on each coupon. Through the bar codes, participating tourist attractions -- and sponsors who pay the cost of manufacturing and distributing the books -- will get monthly management reports about who used their coupons. In many cases, those reports will include such information as the home address and the size of the family visiting. Next thing you know, they'll be putting the bar codes right on tourists' T-shirts. . . .
