Business launches a network of automated teller machines that deliver airline tickets.

Travel Teller, based in Columbus, Ohio, is launching a network of customized automated teller machines that will deliver airline tickets. Manufactured by a Diebold-IBM joint venture, the systems will link travel agents via mainframe and allow them to transmit reserved tickets electronically to airports, banks, and office buildings. As many as 5,000 machines will be installed across the country by 1994. Revenues will come from a onetime membership fee as well as monthly fees. Founder Susan Gunther predicts travel agents, who could reduce delivery costs by as much as $6 per ticket, won't hesitate to come aboard.
