Fraud Alert

Resources for spotting reporting worker's compensation fraud.

To an experienced eye, fraudulent workers' compensation claims often bear telltale signs. Fremont Compensation Insurance, in Glendale, Calif. (818-549-4600), has listed those clues in a free brochure called "Eleven Ways to Spot Workers' Compensation Fraud." Also free are three work-site posters designed to discourage fraud.

Your insurance carrier should hear about suspected fraud first, but you should also report it to governmental bodies that track cases and can press for reform. The National Council on Compensation Insurance (212-560-1000, extension 2139) has compiled "Fraud Hotline Directory," a 20-page index of phone numbers to call for every state. It's free.
