Companies' willingness to offer employees a leave of absence varies dramatically with company size. A 1992 Gallup survey of 634 businesses shows that companies with 20 or fewer employees rarely provide employees leave or unpaid parental leave. In contrast, 42% of companies with 21 to 500 employees let workers take time away from the job.
