We recently called the public-relations office of one of the country's largest corporations with what seemed like a simple question: "What's the official name of your company?" The PR person said she had to check. After putting us on hold briefly, she told us that the appropriate name depends on the context. She then transferred us to a media-relations specialist in another city, who, we were assured, could tell us what name to use. Wrong. We were transferred yet again. Finally, spokesperson number three was able to give us the correct name of the company.
