These days bookstores are awash in business guides to successful exporting. But most are too narrowly focused, too technical, or sometimes too derivative of information that's available elsewhere at little or no cost. Here's an exception: Export Profits: A Guide for Small Business, by Jack S. Wolf (Upstart Publishing, 800-235-8866, 1992, $19.95), an oversize paperback that's remarkably comprehensive.

The book's best feature is its universal applicability: you'll learn plenty from sections on research into market conditions, drawing up a business plan, and writing international trade agreements. There's also a good list of where to go with your country-specific questions.
