This election season, Washington politicians are clamoring to make small-business legislation a campaign issue. Senate Committee on Small Business chairman Christopher "Kit" Bond (R-Mo.) gives the Clinton administration a D- for its legislative achievements in the small-business area, and Jan Meyers (R-Kans.), chair of the House Committee on Small Business, attacks the president's commitment by claiming Clinton vetoed eight key small-business bills. Small business is just so easy for Congress to love. "Most of the bills that support it pass overwhelmingly," notes freshman congressman John Baldacci (D-Maine).
