Banks don't have to be the enemy. Harlan J. Hall, CEO of the SALT Group, a tax-consulting firm in Kerrville, Tex., turned his relationship with his bank into a win-win partnership. SALT -- an acronym for "State and Local Tax" -- holds free tax seminars for potential customers at Wells Fargo Bank Texas N.A. locations. SALT, with a projected $5 million in 2001 sales, benefits from Wells Fargo's name recognition and gets a free venue. The bank gets increased business traffic. And, says Hall, the seminars quickly netted SALT four new customers. Hall says the partnership resulted from the close relationship he has with the bank's branch-office staff in tiny Kerrville.
