Vespa's grand new ride.
By Patrick J. Sauer |
Long the embodiment of la dolce vita, Vespa can now lay claim to la dolce presto -- its Granturismo can scoot past the piazza (or office park) at 70 mph. The GT, which weighs in at 308 pounds, features a 20-hp engine, 12-inch wheels, front and rear disc brakes, and the famous pressed-steel monocoque ("single shell") body. Vespa's first new model since 2000 caused quite a stir with its recent debut, so you'll have to get on the 650-person waiting list before zipping around Gregory Peck/Audrey Hepburn style. With the money you'll save at the pumps -- the GT gets roughly 50 mpg -- a Roman holiday just might make the wait bearable. $4,899; www.vespausa.com
