"When my husband and I moved back to my family's farm in Tchula, Mississippi, I never imagined a prospect of employment. My house is 17 miles from a gallon of milk. Then I got a call from Fred Carl. We talked, and I made him a little gingerbread Viking Range for Christmas. He must have thought, 'Here's this cooking kook, we got to do something with her!' I helped with Giardina's menu and then helped start the cooking school. Then Fred asked if I'd be interested in doing a bakery. My husband and I own Mockingbird, but we would never have been able to get the capital together to open a place this nice."
