How to Get Better Mobile Reception Indoors
Tools for improving cell service at home
Richard T. Nowitz/Corbis
If you are trying to save money, it may be tempting to ditch your landline. Luckily, there has never been a better time to do it, as carriers are answering the call for better cell reception indoors. Verizon Wireless recently introduced the Network Extender ($249); it connects to a broadband connection and acts like a tiny cell tower. Sprint offers a similar product, the AIRAVE base station ($99.99 plus $4.99 per month). T-Mobile customers can get better reception by making calls over Wi-Fi. They will need a Wi-Fi-equipped phone compatible with T-Mobile's Unlimited Hotspot Calling Plan ($9.99 per month), such as the BlackBerry Curve 8900.
