Essentials for this heavy-metal tech entrepreneur include an iPhone battery extender and a smoke machine.
Philip Kaplan, founder of Fucked Company and AdBrite, recently co-founded another au courant business: Blippy, a social network on which people divulge details on credit card purchases. When Kaplan's not in Blippy's office in Palo Alto, California, or meeting with clients and partners, he relaxes by playing heavy metal in his San Francisco music studio. Here are two must-have purchases of his own.
Kensington Mini Battery Pack "I'm often on the go, and I panic when my iPhone dies. A friend of mine bought this iPhone battery extender and swore by it, so I had to check it out. It's the kind of product you don't realize you need because you don't know it exists. Once I found out about it, I realized I couldn't live without it. It's small enough to fit in my pocket, so I can bring it with me wherever I go. Now I don't have to panic when my battery dies." COST: $39.99
Chauvet Hurricane 1300 Fog Machine "I have my own music studio in an old warehouse in San Francisco. It has two drum sets, three guitars, a bass, an extensive PA system, colored lights, and this smoke machine. When I go to the studio, I turn on the smoke machine and the colored lights, and with the black walls, I'm instantly transported to my 14-year-old fantasy: It's loud and dark, and I'm playing on the stage in a huge stadium." COST: $150
