Barry Batcheller's childhood heroes were astronauts, several of whom he met through his father, a flight instructor for NASA. When it came time to choose a college, he looked long and hard for an institution willing to let him study for a double major in aerospace and electrical engineering. He eventually landed at North Dakota State University in Fargo. Today, he commutes to work to his old campus, which has been the launching pad for the four businesses he has founded. His latest venture is Appareo Systems, a hybrid engineering and manufacturing business that designs and builds electronic devices for the aviation industry.
