Hotel fitness centers often seem like an afterthought, nothing more than cramped rooms with a few outdated exercise machines. But at these hotels, the fitness centers are destinations.

W New York -- Downtown

This new financial district hotel has a 1,450-square-foot gym with boxing stations and yoga equipment, plus stationary bikes and elliptical machines. The hotel can arrange special workouts as well, including a sunset yoga session overlooking the Hudson River.
COST: Rooms start at $399 a night; gym access is free.

Hilton Anatole

The 80,000-square-foot fitness center at this Dallas-area Hilton has basketball and racquetball courts, indoor and outdoor running tracks, and kickboxing classes.
COST: Rooms start at $149 a night, plus $16 a day for gym access, which includes admission to the spa pool.

Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco

Sports Club/LA runs this hotel's on-site, 127,000-square-foot fitness center, which has out-of-the ordinary amenities such as a boxing studio and basketball court. Guests can attend workout classes for free and get advice from personal trainers.
COST: Rooms start at $395 a night; gym access is free.
