A New Way to Make Calls Abroad

Tired of outrageous overseas roaming charges? EZ Roam aims to help.

Overseas roaming charges tend to add up during international travel. EZ Roam, a new cell-phone service available in 170 countries, has an alternative. The service's Abroad Global Phone Kit includes a Motorola Razr GSM cell phone, an international AC charger, and a SIM card that gives you a British phone number. Rates vary, but if you make a call in Europe, you will pay 39 cents to 65 cents a minute. Incoming calls are free after a 25-cent surcharge. By contrast, many carriers charge upward of $1 a minute for making and receiving calls abroad. Cost: $79 to buy the kit and $19 to rent it for three months
