Web Translation Made Simple
The skinny on a new Web-based service that can translate websites into more than 50 foreign languages
Looking to take your website global? Smartling aims to help with a Web-based service that can translate sites into more than 50 foreign languages. After setting up an account, select a language and a domain name for the foreign site. Then, hit Translate Site. Smartling's software will begin translating in seconds. You can also crowdsource translations, à la Wikipedia, using Smartling's interface, or hire the service's professional translators. We used the software to translate the Inc.com homepage into Spanish, and the results were mostly accurate, with a few minor errors. Cost: Machine and crowdsourced translation is free for up to three languages and 5,000 page views a month; professional translation is 15 cents a word.
