Things I Can't Live Without: Celeb Hair Stylist Ted Gibson

After 12 years on the job, here's what this on-the-go entrepreneur can't leave behind.

Ted Gibson has worked as a celebrity hairstylist for 12 years, arranging the tresses of Angelina Jolie, Anne Hathaway, and a host of other actresses and models. In 2003, Gibson and his husband, Jason Backe, opened the Ted Gibson salon in New York City. Since then, Gibson has launched a namesake line of hair care products, opened a second salon in the W Fort Lauderdale, and served as expert hairstylist on TLC's What Not to Wear. Here are three of his favorite possessions.

Hermès Fer Enough Silk Twill Tie
Men don't have many options when it comes to accessories, so a great tie can make a big difference. I always wear custom-made slacks and a nice tie to work. A celebrity client and her husband (I can't say who!) gave this Hermès tie to me a few years ago. Hermès is one of my favorite tie designers, because its ties come in great colors. I have about five of them. Cost: $195

Rimowa Salsa Air Multiwheel Suitcase
This suitcase is my staple and lifeline. It's lightweight, durable, and easy to maneuver. That's important, considering I bring all of my tools with me when I travel for work, including a wide variety of hairbrushes, curling irons, wigs, and hair extensions. Airport security agents always tell you to make sure you have the right bag, but my gold suitcase is hard to mistake for someone else's. I love seeing it come down the belt at baggage claim. Cost: $595

Y.S. Park YS-701 Brush
I discovered this Japanese brand in a beauty supply shop in Paris. The salespeople recommended it, and, so far, it has lived up to the hype. I love this brush's dual bristles, which are made of nylon for detangling and boar hair for smoothing and adding shine. It's important to have fresh equipment, especially when working with high-profile clients, so I replace my brushes every four to six months. Cost: $77
