Last May, we told you about how Siamak Taghaddos and David Hauser, the founders of Grasshopper Group, had launched a Twitter campaign to try to convince President Obama to declare a National Entrepreneurs' Day. The idea was to get a million signatures on the petition, then lobby like crazy for a presidential proclamation.
As it turns out, President Obama put his signature on just such a document late last Monday, declaring November 14 through November 20 as National Entrepreneurship Week, and calling upon 'all Americans to commemorate this week with appropriate programs and activities, and to celebrate November 19, 2010, as National Entrepreneurs' Day.'
The typically subdued Taghaddos was beaming as he shared the news with us on Tuesday night at our fabulous party for this year's 30 Under 30 honorees. He also told us that the Kauffman Foundation deserves huge kudos for jumping on the campaign with Grasshopper and helping to convince the powers that be to give entrepreneurs their very own day. It's about time, eh?
So big congrats to entrepreneurs of all ages! In the spirit of The Entrepreneurial Generation, I'd like to make a humble suggestion: to celebrate your day, pay it forward and commit to mentoring a young entrepreneur. If you don't know one, I'm betting you'll find one if you post in the comments section! And if you still can't find one, contact Scott or me and we'll hook you up.
