CEO Brian Taylor observed that Central American countries with t-shirt mills lacked effective landfill laws, so his core business went from t-shirt manufacturing to recycling mills’ waste. By purchasing their excess materials and recycling all of their plastic, metal and cardboard, Taylor annually keeps 6 million pounds of waste and fabric scraps out of the countries’ landfills. Now he is investigating “carbon offset” opportunities to offset the company’s carbon footprint through funding clean energy projects.
